BARTERHOUND DUSK OF REDCAP - Pebbles

4/5/96

Pebbles

Once I realised that Tipsy was not going to make it big in the show ring I started making enquiries for another bitch to join our family. In 1996 Pebbles came to live with us, a very pretty broken tricolour bred by Barbara and Peter Roderick, who were showing and had shown the most beautiful tan and lemon and whites. Pebbles had a very pretty head and a lovely neck and my hopes were high that she would be 'the one', but all did not go well. Once I started to show her she decided it was not something she was going to like and hunched her back, clamped her tail between her legs and managed to look as miserable as any beagle could possibly look. No amount of tempting, treats or promises would make her show and by the time she was 8 months old I was seriously considering letting her go to a pet home... Thank goodness I did not!

Where Pebbles has not made it as a show dog she has more than made up for in the puppies she has produced, and therefore she will remain with us forever as a spoilt couch potato! She is now 12 years old and can still beat any of the youngsters in a race :).

PEDIGREE OF BARTERHOUND DUSK OF REDCAP

I have a full 10-generation pedigree on Pebbles. As a total 'outcross' pedigree I believe it is one to breed on from and this certainly seems to be the case. I seriously believe that I could mate Pebbles to almost any stud dog in the country and the puppies would turn out well.

PEBBLES' LITTERS

Ch Dialynne Tolliver of Tragband, who needs no introduction, sired Pebbles' first litter and it was such an excellent litter that I left it right to the end to decide which pup(s) to keep back. At 7 weeks I decided on the very broken tri boy over the other 2 darker boys and a very flashy tri bitch over her 2 sisters. I do believe I made the right choice, but at the time it was touch and go as one of the other boys (Redcap True Grit who is also Crufts qualified) also looked very good.

So I now had a male, Redcap Rhinestone Cowboy, and his sister, Redcap Little Britches, to bring on. At 6 months I started showing them, just a little at first, but soon decided that Cowboy had more potential so Little Britches went to a lovely home at 10 months.

Ch Raimex Kracker, a fantastic dog with 28 CC's and a fabulous temperament which he is known to have passed down to his offspring, was the sire of Pebbles' second litter. Tragically, when the litter of 3 bitches and 2 dogs were just one week old, their sire passed away from Cancer, a huge loss to his lovely owners Diana and David Brown.

He left me with another stunning litter of broken tri-coloured puppies from which I have kept back a dog and a bitch. I believe the 'star' of this litter is again going to be the boy, Redcap Renaissance (Sheriff), but I am keeping a close eye on his sister, Redcap Elizabethan (Bessie). I sincerely hope that Sheriff and Bessie live up to the example set by their dad.

Two pups from this litter are shown, one, Redcap Shogun - Amber, in the UK with Nikki and Mark Rooke and the other, Redcap Mustang Sally - Sally, with Eamon Murray in Ireland - good luck to both.

Pebbles last puppies, sire is Newlin Kingsley By Cliffmere.

Swagger is the one being run on at Canowindra, Angel (Redcap Angel's Kiss at Barterhound) has a wonderful home with Tracie and Dan in Plymouth and Harvey (Redcap Manhattan) will be tackling agility with the Carling family, good luck to all.
